Brad Files, Head Coach (28th Season) Email Brad
A 1988 NHS alum, Brad joined the varsity staff in 1997 as an assistant coach under Brian Fischer. Coach Files has been a part of three State Championships at NHS ('97,'01,'06) Following the departure of Hal DeBerry, he was named the varsity head coach in 2014. Coach Files has won the KingCo 4A COY award twice ('15,'22)... Prior to returning to Newport, Brad spent three years as the head coach of Bothell HS ('94-'96). ... Brad was a 3-year letterman outfielder at Newport for Coach Bob Mitchell, and shares the school record for consecutive hits (9) with Jay Miller ('02). ... Coach Files works with the hitters, outfielders, baserunners and coaches third base. ... He has been an Asst. Coach during the Summer for Lakeside Recovery Senior Legion for the past 26 summers and has been a part of seven Sr Legion State Championships. ... Played OF at Mesa CC ('88-90) and participated in the 1990 JUCO World Series... Played summer ball for the Northern Colorado Bears ('89) and the Fairbanks Goldpanners ('90). Brad and his wife Shawna live in Sammamish and have two sons, J.T. and Erik.
 
Jason Kim
Jason Kim, Asst. Coach (12th Season)  
Jason was the C-Team head coach for two seasons (2014-2015) before becoming a varsity assistant in 2016. ... A former Knight ('05), he earned the Newport Defensive Player of the Year Award as a junior infielder, then his senior season was named Team MVP, 1st Team All-League, All-Regional and 2nd Team All-State at second base. ... Jason went on to Central Washington University, where played one season as a redshirt freshman, and graduated with a BS in Exercise Science and minor in Athletic Training. ... After Central, he continued his education at Palmer College of Chiropractic and while there returned to the diamond with De Anza College for the 2013 season, earning the Team Defensive Player of the Year Award and getting named to the Golden Gate Coast Gold Glove Team. ... Jason also played for and was the team captain of the 2012 Korean National Team, competing in South Korea. Coach Kim is the proud owner of Active Sports & Spine in Bellevue and the Sports Chiropractor for University of Washington Athletics.
 
Bill Sahlinger
Bill Sahlinger, Pitching Coach (7th Season)  
2012 alum Bill Sahlinger became the varsity pitching in 2020 after two years as a junior varsity assistant. ... As a varsity letterman from 2009-2012, Bill played shortstop and pitched his junior and senior seasons after moving over from second base. ... After high school, he continued his baseball career at the University of Portland, where he earned WCC Freshman All-Conference honors in 2013. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Finance and now works as a financial analyst at an insurance brokerage in Seattle.
