Hal DeBerry
Hal DeBerry, Head Coach (2nd Season) Email Hal
Hal joined the varsity staff as pitching coach in 2009, and took over as the head coach in 2010. A 1979 graduate of Richland High School, Hal played at Yakima Valley College (1980) and Eastern Washington University (1981), when an arm injury ended his playing days. Hal spent 18 years as a college coach, including five years as the Head Coach at Community Colleges of Spokane (1991-1996), and two years as Head Coach at Edmonds Community College (2005-2007). He was the pitching coach at Portland State University (1998), and the pitching coach for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod League (1999-2000). Hal and his wife Eileen live in Seattle.

1988 NHS alum joined the staff in 1997, after three years as head coach of Bothell HS ('94-'96). ... Coach Files works with the hitters, outfielders, and coaches first base. ... He has been an Asst. Coach during the Summer for Food Giant and Lakeside Senior Legion for the past 15 summers. ... Played OF at Mesa CC ('88-90) in Arizona and summer ball for the Fairbanks Goldpanners... Brad and his wife Shawna live in Bellevue and have two sons, J.T. and Erik.
 
Chris Dubois
Chris Dubois, Asst. Coach (8th Season)  
Joined the Varsity team as an assistant in 2006 after skippering the Freshman for 3 seasons (1999, 2000, 2002), then taking 3 years off to get a teaching degree at Central Washington University. Was a Varsity assistant at Thorp High School in Eastern Washington for 2 seasons while attending school at Central. Has coached summer ball for the past 9 years for various programs in the greater Seattle area. Has been with the Lakeside Senior Legion program for the past six summers serving as the pitching coach. Played H.S. ball at Bothell for coach Files and summer ball with Food Giant for coach Fischer. Chris and his wife Carley live in Issaquah.

Bob "Mitch" Mitchell, The Best Scorekeeper in Baseball  
Has coached either the varsity, JV or freshmen team since 1973. ... Has been in the dugout for all six of Newport's State Titles. ... As varsity head coach ('84-88), led nationally ranked 1987 team to a 17-1 league record, and produced two major leaguers, Erik Plantenberg ('87) and Steve Gajkowski ('88). ... Newport's Official Scorekeeper since 1997. ... Makes tape balls with the best of them. ... Played ball at Centralia CC ('49-50), US Army Team ('54) and WWU ('56). ... Taught history at NHS ('65-97). He and his wife Eleanor reside in Redmond and have three children, Lance, Linnea and Jill.

Jim Gibbs
Jim Gibbs, Head Coach (9th Season) Email Jim
Took over as JV head coach in 2002 after skippering the freshmen team for one season. Has also coached JV team at Mercer Island HS and at Marina High School in California ('82-83). ... Also currently on the Newport HS Football coaching staff (Varsity running backs coach). ... Long time youth coach in baseball, basketball, and football in both Washington and California. ... Played baseball, basketball and football in high school (Downey HS and Marina HS, California). ... Married to wife Lori, and has twin sons, Blake and Cameron.
Mark Thorpe
Mark Thorpe, Asst. Coach (8th Season) Email Mark
1987 NHS alum joined the staff in 2002 as the Head Freshmen coach following three years at Bellevue as the Varsity assistant. In 2007, became JV assistant coach ... Head Coach for Lakeside Recovery Junior Legion during the summer ... Currently teaches PE at Cascade Elementary in Renton ... Mark and his wife Kathy have a son, Trevin.
  
Bill Rittenhouse
Bill Rittenhouse, Asst. Coach (11th Season)  
Helps coach the junior varsity team ... His three sons Jason ('90), Adam ('95) and Marc ('97) all played ball at Newport. Jason played college ball at Central Washington, Adam at Oklahoma City and Marc at the University of Washington. Marc and Adam both went on to play pro ball for the Florida Marlins and Mid Missouri Mavericks, respectively. ... His daughter Monica ('92) also ran the halls of Newport High, and his wife Suzanne is a great baseball fan and the tennis player of the family.

Jim Clifford
Jim Clifford, Head Coach (4th Season)  Email Jim
1979 NHS alum, took over as the Freshmen head coach in 2007 after one year as the Freshmen assistant coach. Played football and baseball for Newport. Was a member of the 1978 State Championship Baseball Team, under legendary coach Bob Albo. Played OF at Centralia CC ('79-81). Long time youth baseball coach in the Bellevue area. He and his wife Kim have two sons, Nick and Jake.
Ryan Davis
Ryan Davis, Asst. Coach (3rd Season) 
In his third season on the Newport Baseball Staff, Ryan works with the freshmen pitchers, catchers and outfielders. He played one season for Olympic College (2001) as a pitcher.
